I finished up step 5 of my Orca Bay Mystery quilt so I decided to have a little play time. Have you ever noticed how many ties and plastic thingies there are on toys? When a little one opens a gift it takes the poor parents about 10 minutes, a scissor and sometimes a screw-driver to get the toy out of the package! My solution is to open it up ahead of time. Ask my daughter........I did it when she was little.
I bought these 2 little dolls for my granddaughters.....they sing, talk and make all kinds of funny noises....my daughter is just going to love them.......or not. Anyway I decided to make little sleeping bags for them. What do you think? If you like them I could do a tutorial on them, I have a few things I would do different next time.
Part 5 of the Orca Bay mystery quilt is done. 700 little half square triangles have been sewn on! This was probably the fastest step I have done. I almost ran out of my black fabrics and thought I was going to have to go to my solid black but I made it. Be sure to visit Bonnie at Quiltville.
Those office trays from the Dollar Tree store have sure come in handy!

Your granddaughters are going to love these Connie....your daughter...not so sure ;o)!!! These little sleeping bags are just too cute and I'd love to see a tutorial. Speaking of tutorials, I really enjoyed making one of your Christmas Tree Mug Rugs for a friend and can't wait to give it to her. TFS
Merry Christmas!!!

I would LOVE a tutorial. My six year old daughter loves her Sing-a-ma-jigs. I think we are up to 7 of them. They harmonize so well together :-) I do feel sorry for your daughter though.
Oh I love the little sleeping bags and YES! Please do a tutorial for them...and could you please share what kind of dolls these are for? I have three little granddaughters and think I might be interested in them but haven't seen them before. Thanks for your lovely, inspiring work.
Cute sleeping bags! That's a great idea for any kind of doll really. What a talented lady you are!
I am absolutely with you regarding opening the toys AND getting rid of the rubbish in advance. So much more relaxed on Christmas day!
Love the little sleeping bags and dollies - they are so cute. Well done on getting Part 5 finished - I still have 100 to go. All your parts are looking fabulous!!
What a wonderful gramma you are!
So many triangles, I'd be dizzy.
Merry Christmas,
Susan
I'd love a tutorial for the sleeping bags. I'm giving my granddaugher a doll for Christmas and the sleeping bag would be fun vs the doll blanket I was thinking about. Congrats on finishing Step 5, love how you organized the finished steps.
Great! just great! Now I have another couple of things to make before Christmas! You see, I have a toy just like that (glad I haven't wrapped it yet!) in my presents for the great nieces. I also have a Barbie who would probably like a sleeping bag too!
Ha ha.... they will love these. I think I can figure it out for myself! If not, I will beg for an after Christmas tutorial.
Any chancy you would like to share this tutorial (or another one) during my Finish A Long. If you are interested please let me know and I will gladly throw your name in a slot. I have dates available for March, June, September & December of 2012. Here is the link to the page with the information. http://gapquilter.blogspot.com/p/2012-finish-long.html

I am following along with Orca Bay, but only by reading - I just don't have the patience to do it myself!!! Yours is looking really good!
love your orca progress and the sleeping bags, those are so cute!! I have a 7yr old daughter who would love a sleeping bag for some of her animals....
Very cute...your granddaughters are sure to love them. Great job on the Orca Bay...I hope to get mine done today.
YOU are a genius. Yes, please, a tutorial is a wonderful idea!!
Yes please to the tutorial, though how you will find the time...
the sleeping bags are colourful and cute, my gds would love them!
The girls are going to LOVE them.
Those wrap ties are a nightmare as are the little screws that they use to secire items. Like you I always undo them before giving the gift. Christmas was a nightmare with everyone trying to get the gifts out of the packages.
I can't wait to see what the Orca Bay is going to look like.
we have one of those little singing guys (who also harmonize if you have two together) they are th funniest lookin littel critters, but the kids LOVE them!! Oh, I can't wait to see your orka's come together!!
Another use for small pieces of batting, so cute!
Love the little sleeping bags. My GGdaughter would love this. Please tutorial. Thanks for sharing.

What a great Gramma! Your stuffy sleeping bags are adorable--I see you love the string piecing technique! I'm keeping up with y Orca Bay steps too--aren't we diligent?
I adore your sleeping bags, and the idea of preparing the gift beforehand.
I came here to look at your 700 triangles, they are perfect !
The sleeping bags are adorable, the critters are too. Surely they will just be in love with them.
Merry CHristmas!
The little sleeping bags are adorable. I need some of those little trays from the dollar store, might go by there tonight. I am also way behind on the mystery. Can't wait till after Christmas so I can start to get caught up.
These are so adorable!! My daughter's would love to have one of these for their American Girl dolls. I might have to try my hand at a couple.
I love those Singamajigs and the idea of getting them out of the package before gifting.
Yes a tute for the sleeping bags!
I read the other comments and found the dolls are sing a ma jigs.
No kids here, but I have friends who have kids. Can I get them at Target or Walmart?? I bet the little girls just love them.

Adorable sleeping bags, I love that they match the dolls perfectly! Congratulations on being completely caught up on Orca Bay. The pieces look so pretty all put together like that. It really starts to give you an idea of what the finished quilt will look like. Can't wait!
love them they are so super cute
Your little sleeping bags are just DARLING! Yes.. a tute would be wonderful. You are a clever Grammy to release the toys from all their tie ups. I'm going to steal that idea. Excellent safe tip! Thank you.
Your OrcaBay is looking great. Nice organizational system you have going.
Love the little sleeping bags -- too cute! And don't you love noisy toys for your grandchildren? There's a Target commercial that shows two little guys bouncing up and down in these bouncy/noisy boots, and they boys are hollering, "Thank you, Grandma!!!" and the mom, looking haggard and weary already, says, "Yeah, thanks mom." LOL! I want to get those boots for my grandson SO badly!! Do a tut, please!! :)
how cute.
Cute sleeping bags, as for sleeping bags they are quite stylish!

What kid wouldn't love the sleeping bags for their favorite doll? I am going to make two sock monkeys for my grandsons and I think making the sleeping for them would make the monkeys extra special. Thanks for the idea.
